'Meet Me On The Southbank' evokes the spirit of classic romantic comedy films such as 'When Harry Met Sally', 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', 'Notting Hill' and 'Annie Hall'. Alan knows only once place he can go to escape his troubles: the London BFI South Bank, where he can indulge in his favourite classic films. Hopelessly single, the nearest Alan gets to a date is when his eccentric best friend Chris accompanies him to the cinema. But then by chance, or perhaps by fate, Alan encounters Clare. A young ingénue who also likes to go to the BFI alone. A match made in heaven you would think... Not quite. Clare is already in a relationship, and Alan has a tendency for romanticising life like it was a film. However, despite an unusual introduction, they strike up a friendship and start to meet regularly and only on the South Bank. Over the course of one year, we follow their story.
